When I did my 5 at (~200k) it was wonderful to have everything new and tight. I recommend getting a couple each of the plastic shims/spacers (2 sizes)that go on either end of the selector rod to tighten it up, there a few cents each and you can be sure which combination will fit just right. I just inspected my e24 last weekend and it needs all of those items mentioned (with only 48k miles) although the console mounts are slightly different. I have the aluminum console on my cars(attaches differently with a hidden clasp) however I completely agree with BBR, just replace all the wear pieces while you are getting into it. ![]() But it bolts to the console and then to the rear of the trans through the rubber isolator. I thought there were two #4's required to mount the sheet metal console to the trans, one each side, maybe that's something else I have in mind.
